When it comes to "sexting" there is no clear law on the books. That's according to Chambersburg Police Chief David Arnold, who is investigating close to 30 Chambersburg High School students for allegedly sending nude pictures with their cell phones.
It all started on September 23rd. That's when the police chief says the Chambersburg School District security director, told him about shocking photos. He said the "photos involved nudity and had been circulated" to other students, through computers and cell phones.
" Some of them have nudity in them, whether it's partial or full," said Chief David Arnold, Chambersburg Police.
Students are allowed to have cell phones in school. They're just not allowed to use them. Assistant Superintendent Eric Michael says he believes none of the photos were taken on school grounds. But authorities are still trying to find out when they were sent and who sent them.
" Currently, my understanding is what they could be charged with is felony child pornography. They would be on the Megan's list as a sex offender for the rest of their lives," said Eric Michael, Assistant Superintendent, Chambersburg Area School District.
Michael says he's now revamping the school district's internet safety education program and extending it everyone.
" It's something that can't be solved by schools. It has to be solved by all of us," said Michael.
The assistant superintendent says as the investigation continues, the number of students who could be involved in the sexting case may grow.
